Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important official commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
