Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
